Healthy grapes need healthy land.
Our vines are produced organically under the supervision of Ecocert, so it goes without saying that we clear the land and turn it over with absolutely no recourse to chemicals or fertilizers.
Des raisins sains parce que nos sols et nos vignes sont sains !
Tout le vignoble est cultivé selon les préceptes de l’Agriculture Biologique, c'est-à-dire que nous labourons intégralement les sols, sans recours aux herbicides et que les traitements excluent tout produit chimique de synthèse. Pour une plus grande transparence vis-à-vis de notre clientèle, nous nous soumettons volontairement au contrôle de l’organisme indépendant ECOCERT .
Ajoutons à cela que nous n’avons jamais recours à un apport d’engrais, qu’il soit chimique bien sûr ou même organique. Nous pensons en effet que la vigne ne doit puiser sa nourriture que dans la minéralité du sol lui-même, cela implique évidemment des rendements faibles !

On the slopes of Rittersberg (mountain of the knights) below the ancient castle Ortenbourg Jean-Paul Schmitt is taking care of his vineyards.
Our estate is entirely in its final year of reconversion for organic production - certified by Ecocert.
Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Noir are growing in best granit soil. All typical alsacian varieties of wines are produced in his large vineyard. Domaine Jean-Paul Schmitt is growing on 8 hectares organic grapes with an average of 45 hectolitres per hectare.
Our estate received over many years several international awards for their Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer. The burgundy style Pinot Noir is among the best of this kind in Alsace and highly reputed among our customers.
Winner of gold medal in 2008 for our Gewurztraminer Rittersberg Réserve Personnelle 2005 at the international competition for the world's best Gewurztraminer and nominated by Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2009 for our Riesling Rittersberg Réserve Personnelle 2006 as well as for our Pinot Gris Rittersberg Réserve Personnelle 2006.
In 2007 our Pinot Gris Rittersberg Sélection de Grains Nobles 2001 was awarded with the Trophie of Excellence at the world competition Pinot Gris du Monde with outstanding 99/100 points - the highest points ever given for a Pinot Gris.
