Domaine Rion-Armelle et Bernard Rion
The Domaine RION was founded in 1880 by Pierre Rion, the ex-sharecropper of the Château de la Berchère who had acquired some vineyards in Vosne Romanée. His son Louis succeeded him, and during his time, he substantially enlarged the Domaine. In 1952, the Domaine was divided between his 2 sons. The oldest, Marcel Rion, further enlarged the Domaine and stayed in Vosne Romanée. Bernard Rion has helped his father since 1973. Since 1981 Bernard runs the domain with his wife Armelle. And now their daughter Alice, after a diploma at the wine school of Beaune, is associated with her parents. Since 2006 vintage she is winemaker with his father Bernard !
These balanced and complete wines are traditionally vinified. Totally de-stemmed, with a long vinification (2 to 3 weeks in open vats), and they are then aged for 15 months (half in new oak barrels). They are pleasant and fruity for the young vintages, but well structured enough to ensure good ageing.
Alice, Armelle and Bernard RION not only like to welcome visiters to their cellar but they also enjoy to offer tastings of their wines. They can receive groups by appointment. They put all of their care into preparing the shipments and company gift packages. At the Domaine RION you can discover some old vintages, in bottles and in magnums. C’est en 1880, que Pierre Rion s’installe à Vosne Romanée. L’ancien métayer du Château de la Berchère acquiert des vignes à Vosne Romanée, et le Domaine RION nait. Son fils Louis lui succède, et à son tour, il augmente substentiellement le Domaine. En 1952, l’exploitation est partagée entre ses deux fils. Son fils ainé, Marcel Rion, agrandit le Domaine et reste à Vosne Romanée. Bernard Rion a secondé son père depuis 1973. Depuis 1981 il dirige le Domaine avec son épouse Armelle.
En 2008 leur fille Alice, après une formation de viticulture et d'oenologie à Beaune, est devenue associée. Mais c'est depuis 2006 qu'elle vinifie les vins avec Bernard qui lui transmet ses méthodes.
Les vins sont vinifiés de façon traditionnelle. Egrappage total, longue vinification, 2 à 3 semaines en cuves ouvertes, et élevage des vins pendant 15 mois en tonneaux de chênes neufs ou de 2 ou 3 vins, donnent des vins équilibrés et complets. Ils sont agréables et fruités pour les jeunes millésimes, mais bien charpentés ce qui leur laissent prévoir un bel avenir.
Alice, Arrmelle et Bernard RION aiment faire visiter leur cave et bien sûr faire déguster leurs vins. Chez eux vous apprécierez l'ambiance de la cave, et leur savoir-faire. Les groupes sont reçus uniquement sur rendez-vous. Toutes les commandes sont préparées dans les plus brefs délais.
