Les principes modernes de la Culture Intégrée et de l’Agriculture Durable nous permettent aujourd’hui de travailler dans le plus grand respect de la Nature et de l’environnement.
Christophe is the 13th generation of the family to produce wine at Mercer. We currently take care of 23 ha. From many years now, we practice integrated, rationally controlled cropping. This new cultivation concept, driven by the concern of being environment-friendly, gives pride of place to quality rather than quantity.

Château Penin
HISTORY
A family business since1854 (acquisition by Louis CARTEYRON and his son Jacques).
Patrick, representing the fifth generation, took over in 1982 (13 ha of vines) after being an oenologist for several years.
Today, we cultivate 40 hectares of vines, for a yearly production of 270 000 bottles.
We sell 50% of our wines in France and 50% in the rest of the world (Europe, Asia, Americas).
Working in accordance with our soil, in ensuring the protection and the respect of our natural environment is our concern, to point out the authentic qualities and pleasure, brought by the healthy and mature grapes
GEOGRAPHY AND GEOLOGY
CHATEAU PENIN is located on gravel soils, between the limestone plateau and “palus”, on the left bank of the Dordogne River, opposite the St Emilion hill.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
We take care in working in accordance with our soil, in ensuring the protection and the respect of our natural environment, to express the authentic qualities and pleasures brought by a healthy and ripe grape transformed into wine.
To produce pleasurable, accessible, full-bodied wines, round which are as the stones of our soil, wines to drink for pleasure and health, nice convivial wines.
OUR WINES
The red Wines of Château PENIN are full-bodied but with a beautiful harmony and roundness. The tannins are ripe and ropy with a low-level of acidity.
They can be drunk young because they are not aggressive but they mature very well thanks to their good tannic constitution and the great “terroir” which express its charm after several years.
Three different vintages are sold:
-Château PENIN Tradition : vines from 8 to 30 years old, aged wines 12 months in vats
-Château PENIN Grande Sélection : vines more than 30 years old, a wine matured in barrels during 12 months.
-Château PENIN Les Cailloux : a plot with an exceptional soil, a wine racked into barrels for 12 months.
The WHITE wine of Château PENIN is a blend of the grape varieties grey Sauvignon, White Sauvignon and Semillon. Fermented and kept on their fine lees in barrels, it is a wine very aromatic, powerful and with very fruity aromas, supple, harmonious, aromatic and full of charm on the palate. A little closed in its youth, this wine after 3 years will blossom.
The château PENIN CLAIRET is leader of this appellation still unknown 10 years ago. Several days of maceration at a low-level temperature, brings to this light red wine, fruitiness, suppleness and charm, to drink fresh, easily and with pleasure. The château PENIN ROSE comes from a very short maceration (4 to 5 hours). Very fruity and light, it’s an aromatic wine which can be drunk at anytime.
